Kwame Kilpatrick nailed for perjury and obstruction

Kwame Kilpatrick, the Detroit Mayor caught lying about his affair with his chief of staff, has been charged with perjury, obstruction of justice among other felony charges.

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy ripped Kilpatrick during a press conference Monday and said city officials tried to obstruct her investigation.

"At every bend and turn there have been efforts by the city to block our investigation," she said. "We had to go to court to get documents we subpoenaed on January 31. We have been told some other documents have been destroyed."

Kilpatrick was caught after a newspaper reported that he exchanged romantic text messages with his chief of staff. The report contradicted testimony the pair gave in a whistle-blower trial, causing critics to allege that Kilpatrick committed perjury and bringing calls for his resignation.
