Vienna, Austria - A man carrying a backpack with explosives was arrested by Austrian police on Monday after he tried to enter the U.S. embassy in Vienna.

A man carrying a backpack with explosives was arrested by Austrian police on Monday after he tried to enter the U.S. embassy in Vienna.

The suspect is a 42-year-old man of Bosnian origin from the north-eastern province of Lower Austria, police spokeswoman Michaela Raz said.

He was arrested shortly after running off when his bag triggered a metal detector at the embassy's entrance.

Nobody was injured in the incident, but police sealed off the area afterwards.

The suspect was caught not far from the embassy, which is situated on Boltzmanngasse street.

Raz said police were currently questioning the man and that explosives experts were examining the contents of his bag.
