Campaign Money Watch on Guilty Verdict In Stevens CaseFrom a Campaign Money Watch press releaseToday Campaign Money Watch, a national nonpartisan campaign finance watchdog, issued the following statement from its director, David Donnelly, in response to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) being found guilty on seven counts of corruption in federal court: "Today's verdict confirms what many Alaskans were worried about - that 'Washington' has gotten to their senior senator. But while Ted Stevens has become the latest symbol of an out-of-touch political class in Washington, he is unfortunately just the latest in a long line. Until we clean up Washington and make service in Congress synonymous with public service, we'll continue to see our elected officials conceal their self-interest and see them work on behalf of special interests, lobbyists and campaign donors." Campaign Money Watch is a project of the nonpartisan Public Campaign Action Fund. Earlier this year, it aired an ad in Alaska highlighting Ted Stevens' ties to special interest donors in the health care and insurance industries. The organization works to hold politicians who are against comprehensive campaign finance reform accountable for where they get their political donations.
