Clinton raises $27 million, clobbering Republicans

October 2, 2007

Washington, DC - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton raised $27 million in the 3rd quarter, far more than rival Barack Obama and nearly the total of all Republican candidates combined.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton raised $27 million in the 3rd quarter, far more than rival Barack Obama and nearly the total of all Republican candidates combined.

Senator Clinton's website says that over 100,000 new donors contributed to the New York Democrat.

Clinton's total includes $22 million that she can spend on the primary race. She has to save the rest for the general election and will have to return it if she doesn't win the nomination, reports the Associated Press.

Monday, the campaigns for Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards announced their candidates had pulled in $20 million and $7 million, respectively.

From Clinton's Campaign Manager: Hillary wanted you to know that this was our best quarter yet. More than 100,000 new donors. A total of $27 million raised -- and $22 million for the primary -- substantially more than any other candidate in the race.

This is all thanks to you and your hard work. You -- and over a million supporters like you -- are working together with Hillary to create real momentum that will take us to victory.

This is the moment when you showed that America is ready for change and that you are ready to make history. This is the moment when your dedication defied the skeptics.

The early primaries and caucuses are coming up fast. We're going to need your help a lot in the next few months. Later this week, Hillary will write to tell you about how you can get involved in our new field program and talk to voters directly on behalf of the campaign.

But for now, I want to thank you again for all your incredible hard work and dedication. Hillary wanted to thank you, too -- but I'll let her speak for herself.
