Search warrants in Anna Nicole Smith caseOctober 12, 2007LA - The FBI served 8 search warrants today in its investigation into the suspicious death of Anna Nicole Smith.
The investigation is looking into the prescription drugs Smith took. Smith, a former Playboy Playmate, diet supplement spokeswoman and tabloid fixture, died February 8 of an accidental drug overdose at a Florida hotel. She was 39. The warrants were served at the homes of two doctors, a business owned by one of the doctors, four businesses owned by the other physician and a storage shed used by one of the doctors, the official said. The doctors were home at the time, the official said. No arrests were expected at this time, the official said. Several people close to Smith have fallen under suspicion since her death, according to published reports. The Medical Board of California said in April it was investigating Smith's psychiatrist, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, The Associated Press reported. According to documents, Eroshevich authorized all 11 prescription medications found in Smith's hotel room the day she died, the AP reported. Eroshevich had traveled with Smith to Florida, according to the AP. More than 600 pills, including 450 muscle relaxants, were missing from prescriptions that were no more than five weeks old, according to the documents, which the wire service obtained through a public records request. California's medical board also opened an inquiry to determine if there was any misconduct by Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who reportedly prescribed methadone to Smith. Methadone is a popular narcotic painkiller that is used as part of drug addiction detoxification and maintenance programs. Methadone overdoses can cause shallow breathing and dangerous changes in heartbeat. © AR News |
