Benazir Bhutto unhurt after bombingsOctober 18, 2007Pakistan - The motorcade carrying Pakistani former PM Benazir Bhutto was bombed during a homecoming parade after eight years in exile.
The AP is reporting at least 110 dead. The vehicle had just passed when the bombs went off, and there is speculation that at least one of the attacks was a car blast. Ms Bhutto was evacuated from the truck and Sky News' Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said "she had gone to a house she knows well". Mrs Bhutto was on her way from Karachi airport to a welcome rally when the explosions took place. Initial reports said at least 15 people were injured in the blasts, but Mrs Bhutto was not thought to be among them. At least one vehicle was damaged. Unconfirmed reports said several people were killed. Hundreds of thousands of people had turned out to greet the former PM. The motorcade is now said to be at a standstill. The cause of the blasts is not clear. © AR News |
