Alaska Democratic caucus switch to primary?February 7, 2008 5:51 AM - Posted by Dennis Zaki Communications Director for the Democratic party, Kay Brown, says it may be time to switch to a primary process so all voters have a chance to cast their vote. The move to switch follows the chaos at the Super Tuesday caucus in which Democrats had a 1,700% increase in voter turnout from the last election. Some voters couldn't make it to the caucuses on time due to traffic and weren't allowed to vote. A KTUU.com poll on Wednesday asked "Should Alaska Democrats go back to a presidential primary, in which voters cast a ballot instead of caucusing?" - 89% voted yes. The chairman of the Republican party, Randy Ruedrich, doesn't want any part of it and could block the move. "I have no intent of going there." If Ruedrich doesn't like it, you know it must be a smart idea. |
