Geoffrey Fieger indicted for illegal contributions to John Edwards

Detroit, Michigan - Geoffrey Fieger, best known as the self-promoting attorney who represented Dr. Jack Kevorkian, has been indicted by a grand jury for conspiring to make illegal campaign contributions to former Senator John Edwards during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Geoffrey Fieger, best known as the self-promoting attorney who represented Dr. Jack Kevorkian, has been indicted by a grand jury for conspiring to make illegal campaign contributions to former Senator John Edwards during the 2004 presidential campaign.

Prosecutors said Edwards was unaware of the illegal activity.

The federal grand jury in Detroit returned a ten count indictment which alleges Fieger conspired to make more than $125,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Edwards. Fieger and attorney Vernon Johnson are also indicted for obstruction of justice, making false statements and violating Federal Election laws.

Fieger, 56, also was the unsuccessful Democratic nominee for Governor of Michigan in 1998.
