Amy Winehouse was among the early winners at this year's Grammy Awards, picking up three awards.

The 24-year-old Winehouse, whose promising career has been derailed by drug and legal problems, won best new artist, best pop vocal album and best female pop vocal performance.

A performance by the singer is due to be beamed by satellite from London into the show in Los Angeles.

Winehouse has left a rehabilitation clinic for her Grammy performance in a London studio.

The US embassy reversed its decision to refuse her a visa, but the change of heart came too late to allow her to attend the ceremony in person.

"I'm really sorry I can't be there but I appreciate that I'm being given a second chance via satellite," the singer said.

Mark Ronson was named best non-classical producer for his work with Winehouse, Lily Allen and on his own album Version.
