4.7 earthquake not related to Redoubt volcano

The magnitude 4.7 earthquake that struck the Matanuska-Susitna area of Alaska Tuesday is not related to the Redoubt volcano, according to the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO).

The epicenter of the earthquake was near Big Lake, Alaska.

A M 4.6 earthquake occurred roughly 20 miles north of Anchorage at 12:13 PM today (see the Alaska Earthquake Information Center for more information). The earthquake was not related to the volcanic activity.
