Alaska Democrats to Help McCain in Search for Alaska Office Space

McCain announced last week he wasn't opening an Alaska office; AK Dems decide to lend a hand

Last Friday, Sen. John McCain's campaign announced it would not open an office or actively campaign in Alaska despite a strong statewide effort here by the Barack Obama campaign: "The McCain campaign has said it doesn't expect to open an office in Alaska and does not consider it among the 'top tier' of target states to spend resources on. However, a McCain spokeswoman said she was confident he would do well here." [Anchorage Daily News, 7/18/2008]

In the spirit of promoting Alaskans and the issues of importance to them, the Alaska Democratic Party is announcing today that it will make an effort to help the McCain campaign find office space in the Last Frontier.

"John McCain expects to ignore Alaskans and their issues and still carry the state in the fall," said Kay Brown, spokeswoman for the Alaska Democratic Party. "Unfortunately, John McCain's snubbing of Alaska isn't really a surprise: he's been out-of touch with Alaska on the big issues throughout his long career in Washington. We need a president who will stand up for us and fight for Alaska, and that starts with including us in the political process.

"To help John McCain see firsthand how problems like high gas prices and the faltering economy are hurting Alaska families, we're encouraging him to open a campaign office in Alaska. We're going to do our part to help Senator McCain find a good office location here."
