November 9th, 2006

Los Angeles, CA - Montana's Republican Sen. Conrad Burns has conceded the Senate race to Democratic state Sen. Jon Tester.

Montana's Republican Sen. Conrad Burns has conceded the Senate race to Democratic state Sen. Jon Tester.

"I stand ready to help as Montana transitions to a new United States senator," Burns said in a statement to The Associated Press. "We fought the good fight and we came up just a bit short. We've had a good 18 years and I am proud of my record."

Burns did not plan any public appearances Thursday, his campaign told the AP.

"We finally felt that the numbers were stable enough," spokesman Jason Klindt said. "Yesterday there was just too much movement going on with a close election."

With all precincts reporting, Tester beat Burns 198,302 votes to 195,455 votes.
