Alaska Coast Guard monitoring load-shifted cargo ship

Juneau, Alaska - The Coast Guard's North Pacific Search and Rescue Coodination Center is monitoring the Global Hawk, a 560-foot cargo ship located approximately 265 miles east of Kodiak in the Gulf of Alaska.

The Coast Guard's North Pacific Search and Rescue Coodination Center is monitoring the Global Hawk, a 560-foot cargo ship located approximately 265 miles east of Kodiak in the Gulf of Alaska.

The Global Hawk, a Panamanian-flagged vessel, was carrying a shipment of logs from Hydaburg to South Korea. The load shifted in adverse weather conditions of 18-foot seas and 45-50 knot winds. An unknown number of logs were lost overboard.

There are no reports of any injuries to the 21 crewmembers onboard. There are no reports of damage to the vessel. There is no evidence of listing.

A Coast Guard C-130 Hercules and crew are enroute to assess the situation.

The Global Hawk is seeking storm avoidance near Kodiak.
