American soldier gets 100 years in rape, death of Iraqi girlFebruary 23rd, 2007Fort Campbell, Ky. - A U.S. soldier was sentenced to 100 years in prison Thursday night after pleading guilty in the rape and murder of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and the slaying of her parents and sister, during a court-martial at Fort Campbell, Ky., a military spokeswoman said. According to Media Relations Officer Cathy Gramling, Sgt. Paul Cortez will also be given a dishonorable discharge from the Army. The sentence was part of a plea agreement in the case in which Cortez agreed to cooperate in pending cases against others soldiers involved in the incident.
