Another Republican (Doolittle) raided by FBI

April 18, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The FBI has raided the home of Republican Rep. John Doolittle who's wife is connected to convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Doolittle's attorney said Wednesday.

The FBI has raided the home of Republican Rep. John Doolittle who's wife is connected to convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, Doolittle's attorney said Wednesday.

"The search was limited to financial documents related to Mrs. Doolittle's company, Sierra Dominion Financial Solutions, Inc., and not to Congressman Doolittle," said attorney David Barger. "Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we will have no further comment."

"My wife has been cooperating with the FBI and the Justice Department for almost three years and that cooperation is going to continue in the future," Doolittle said in a statement released by his lawyer. "I support my wife 100 percent and fully expect that the truth will prevail."

Sierra Dominion Financial Solutions is a consulting firm with Julie Doolittle as the sole employee. Through the company, she has worked for disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, a lobbying firm and as a fundraiser for the congressman, according to media reports.

Abramoff pleaded guilty in January 2006 to conspiracy, mail fraud and other charges, admitting to bilking his Indian tribe clients out of tens of millions of dollars with promises to influence decisions coming out of Congress and the Interior Department, reports the Associated Press.

Abramoff is currently in prison and cooperating with the government in return for a lighter sentence.

Republican Congressman Don Young of Alaska is also involved in the Abramoff scandal by sending two letters benefitting Abramoff's tribal clients. A few weeks later, Young's PAC received several thousand dollars in contributions from those same clients. Young is currently under three separate FBI investigations.
