"There's a special connection that I thought I had between me and black America"

HONOLULU -- U.S. bounty hunter and TV star Duane "Dog" Chapman says he never used the N-word out of hate, insisting he has always felt close to the black community.

Chapman defended himself on the Fox News program, "Hannity & Colmes," marking his first television appearance since an 8-month-old tape of him uttering the racial slur was recently made public, E! News reported.

"There's a special connection that I thought I had between me and black America," Chapman said. "And I used to say, 'I'm black, too.' In other words, my whole life I've been called a half-breed, a convict, king of the trailer trash, this and that.so when I stood there and said, 'I kind of know what you feel like, because I've been there, too,' that I felt that I could embrace and like, as brothers. say the word. I now learned I'm not black at all, and I never did it out of hate."

Chapman admitted he took this perspective too far.

"I will try never, ever, ever to use that word again," he said. "I'm guilty, and I will take my punishment."

A&E has taken "Dog the Bounty Hunter" off its schedule indefinitely.
